Volunteers from North Ayrshire Council Zero Waste team

Visitors to the special flower show stand, shared by Zero Waste Scotland, North, East and South Ayrshire Councils, can also find out how to save an average of ￡430 a year by reducing food waste.Volunteers from North Ayrshire Council Zero Waste team are going to be on hand to give advice on how to save money by reducing food waste; home composting and other waste reduction measures.

North Ayrshire Council’s Waste Awareness Officers will also be at the stand to give advice on increasing recycling, including what can and can’t be recycled.And the team have scooped an award for their efforts in stopping waste for the last three year at the show.North Ayrshire Council spokesman for Environment and China Leather Flowers Wholesalers, Councillor John Ferguson, said: “Improvements to recycling in North Ayrshire mean that it’s now easier and more convenient to recycle materials such as glass and plastics.

“The amount of plastics recycled in North Ayrshire has increased by more than 200 per cent since the council extended the range of materials that can be recycled in blue bins.But there are lots of things people can do to reduce their waste and to recycle more.Ayr Flower Show is a fantastic horticultural showcase, and the ideal place to find out more about doing your bit for the environment.”
