The death of President Abraham Lincoln's son William Willie Wallace Lincoln in February seemed to change his approach to the war.Lincoln now better able to relate to the thousands of parents who had already lost their sons in battle devoted all of his time to his goal of reestablishing the Union and the fight for freedom for all.

In many ways Willies passing changed the philosophy of Lincolns approach in the war.He now showed a willingness to take the gloves off and take the fight to the South in a more aggressive way to ensure victory. We can see the change as the war begins to widen in the months that followed through battles being at Kernstown, Shiloh, Yorktown and New Orleans. The president seemed determined to end the war as quickly as possible so the grief of all these families, from both sides, could be brought to a close.

There was a description of Willie and his funeral in the local newspapers written by an unknown friend of the family Willie Lincoln had his acquaintances among his father's friends, and I chanced to be one of them. He never failed to seek me out in a crowd, and shake hands, and make some pleasant remark; and this in a boy of but 10 years age, was, to say the least, endearing to a stranger.

But he had more than mere affectionateness. This self-expressionI was one day passing the White House when he was outside with a playfellow on the sidewalk. Mr. Seward drove in with Prince Napoleon and two of his suite in the carriage, and, in a mock heroic way terms of amusing intimacy evidently existed between the boy and the Secretary the official gentleman took off his hat, and the Napoleon party did the same, all making the young Prince-President a ceremonious salute. aplomb, as the French call it was extraordinary.leave flowers outside Winnipeg hair salon
