The Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center in Piggott hosted its 13th annual Celebration of Quilting on Saturday, May 19, with 83 quilt entries from all across Northeast Arkansas and Southeast Missouri.Event coordinator, museum staff member Johnna Redman, said of this year's event, "We had more different and new types of quilts than ever before, and we also had more quilt entries from the 1920's and 30's than we have ever had before."

Quilts were brought in by family members and quilters from all across the region, including Jonesboro, Paragould, Corning, Pocahontas, Pollard, Boydsville, Piggott and Poplar Bluff.One unusual entry was a quilt from the 1930's, a mariner's compass design, accompanied by a framed piece of that quilt, brought in by Lisa Long of Jonesboro, the mother of new Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center director Adam Long.

Long and two of her cousins had the quilt pieces framed, along with a sentiment and photo of their great-grandmother, Woodsie Jackson, who made the quilt. The wood for the framing came from an old family barn, and the framed gifts were given to Long and her cousins' mothers for Mother's Day several years ago.The sentiment on the framed quilt piece reads, "Though it may be faded and worn, time cannot dim the beauty of a quilt or the love in the heart of the maker."

Quilt styles at the celebration ranged from old era designs to new style art and photo quilts, along with appliqued and beautifully embroidered quilts.Visitors to the quilt celebration voted on their favorites and ribbons were given out in five categories.Wellingtons flourishing fashion scene
