For Springfield mom Staci Hill, the spring and summer seasons mean spending time in the garden. Now that she has three kids Mollie and Annie, she uses that gardening time also to teach them earth-friendly lessons in a hands-on way by letting them help.

I think the best way to talk about environmental responsibility with young kids is to get them outside and start to show them how everything interrelates and how it works how plants grow and how insects and birds live among us Hill says.

With Easters arrival and Earth Day just two weeks away, its a great time to introduce earth-friendly activities into young kids lives.Hills oldest daughter Mollie, also started composting this year. After Hill purchased a basic composter, she started keeping compostable food waste in a gallon-sized Ziploc bag in the kitchen. When it gets full, Mollie puts the bag in the bin outside. She is able to see the familiar foods items in the bin breaking down, and it gives us a lot of opportunities to talk about the importance of reusing and recycling at a level where she can see the results Hill says.

Thats why, while most people pick up dye at the store, Block says she likes to use whats already in her kitchen to save money. She recommends using natural, nontoxic materials, such as herbs, flowers and garden produce to create vibrant colors. You can use this all-natural dye on your Easter eggs, on silks for imagination play or even handkerchiefs that children can color themselves. In addition, she doesn’t have to worry about Patrick putting the dye in his mouth .Freeze watch fosters need to protect plants
