Eileen Roth always has to be ready to adjust her planned day because at any time, emergencies can arise.Plus, you never know what to expect with a population of people who are still learning the names of colors.For Roth, the sole school nurse at St. Lawrence School, 1000 N. Some days when she walks into work, there is already a line of people waiting for her with problems to solve.
She's been there for 13 years at the prekindergarten to sixth-grade school after working in the ICU and private doctors' offices in Ohio, Minnesota, Texas and North Carolina.The beginning of the school year is sometimes the most hectic time of the year because she is collecting emergency contact numbers and making sure kids have had their proper immunization shots and that she has information about food allergies.Her daily role involves everything from health screenings, high fashion leg garters vision and hearing tests to first aid and medication recommendations."There is something about the kids that just makes the whole experience fun," said Roth, of Greece. "They are just filled with surprises and great to interact with. They give you a jolt of energy even when you go through your busy days."
